OSCE Mission congratulates Montenegro on adoption and proclamation of new constitution

PODGORICA, 22 October 2007 - The Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Ambassador Paraschiva Badescu, welcomed today the adoption and proclamation of Montenegro's new constitution.
"By adopting the new constitution by a two-third majority in the Parliament, Montenegro has taken yet another important step in its efforts at strengthening democratic reforms and the rule of law," she said.
She noted that the constitution, which was adopted Friday and will be proclaimed today, is generally in line with recommendations from the Council of Europe and OSCE institutions such as the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the High Commissioner for National Minorities.
"A crucial legislative process must now follow," Badescu said. "The OSCE Mission to Montenegro will continue to support and assist in this process."
