Head of OSCE Mission to Montenegro meets Interior Minister to discuss co-operation and reforms
The newly-appointed Head of OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Ambassador Maryse Daviet met with the country’s Interior Minister Mevludin Nuhodzic in Podgorica on 22 February 2017, and assessed the co-operation between the Mission and the Ministry as successful, emphasizing that Montenegro has made strong progress in reforms. She expressed the Mission’s readiness to continue supporting Montenegro’s democratic development.
Referring to the recommendations from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights’ assessment of the 16 October parliamentary elections, Daviet noted that the OSCE Mission to Montenegro stands ready to continue supporting the strengthening of relevant institutions. In particular, she said that the Mission will continue providing technical assistance to the State Election Commission and the Interior Ministry.
Discussing joint projects with the Ministry, Daviet referred to the MONDEM programme for demilitarization and the safe storage of ammunition as well as projects related to the continued gender mainstreaming of the police.
Nuhodzic congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment, expressing his satisfaction with the Mission’s support for Montenegro’s ongoing reforms. He commended the constructive role of the Mission in the area of rule of law, acknowledging the Mission’s expertise in supporting the preparation of the Police Reform Strategy 2016-2020. He also welcomed the Mission’s work in the area of police integrity, the fight against organized crime and in enhancing cross-border co-operation between the police.
It was agreed that the partnership between the Ministry and Mission will continue with the aim of assisting Montenegro in meeting its obligations on all OSCE commitments and principles as part of the wider reform process.
