OSCE Mission to Montenegro awards local municipalities for innovative services for citizens
The OSCE Mission to Montenegro in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior and Union of Municipalities awarded local municipalities on 12 December 2016 for their work in various areas, recognizing the quality of their work and innovation in providing services to citizens.
The municipality of Mojkovac was recognized for improving environmental protection and the sustainable management of natural resources.
The municipality of Pljevlja was honoured for its work in emergency response.
The municipality of Tivat was awarded for its work with civil society.
The municipality of Bijelo Polje was awarded a special prize.
Welcoming the participants to the award ceremony, Aleksandar Bogdanovic, Chairperson of the Union of Municipalities and Mayor of Cetinje, said: "Local governments have a special responsibility in providing public services to its citizens in the best and most efficient manner. They should undertake activities aimed at strengthening the transparency, efficiency, accountability and improvement of conditions in local communities."
Dan Redford, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission in Montenegro said that the best practices in local government programme gives an opportunity to all local government units to showcase their good practices and present innovative solutions in providing services to citizens whose quality of life is largely determined by services provided by local authorities.
