OSCE-supported plan towards a gender-sensitive parliament in Montenegro presented in Podgorica
A roadmap towards a gender-sensitive parliament in Montenegro with the aim of better integrating gender equality in the legislature, was presented in Podgorica on 11 December 2015. The document was developed with support of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
Members of the Gender Equality and Administrative Committees, Secretary General of the Parliament as well as the representatives of the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, and gender focal points from government institutions took part in the event. Invitees to the presentation also included representatives of civil society and international organizations.
The Roadmap was planned as one of the measures in an Action Plan to strengthen the legislative and oversight roles of the Parliament of Montenegro.
The draft was produced by two ODIHR experts who visited Montenegro in the first week of October this year and met with key stakeholders in public institutions and civil society in the area of gender equality.
The participants noted that the Roadmap was prepared in a concrete, systematic and informative way, and that it is a useful tool for further initiatives in this area.
The Chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee, Nada Drobnjak, announced a new meeting of the Committee where the Roadmap will be discussed and the steps towards adopting and developing the Plan will be agreed on.
