A draft local action plan for gender equality for Montenegro’s capital city of Podgorica was the topic of an OSCE-supported public discussion held in the city, on 11 November 2015.
Members of the working group, consisting of municipal authorities and civil society, as well as representatives of the public, the media, national institutions, public companies and non-governmental organizations provided comments and suggestions on the draft action plan before it enters the adoption procedure at the local assembly. The deadline for submitting comments is 16 November.
Biljana Pejović, the Head of the Department for Gender Equality in the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, emphasized the importance of increased co-operation between competent institutions and municipal authorities in implementing the action plan. According to Pejović, the OSCE's expertise in this process has been of vital importance.
This event follows up on OSCE-supported activities that included three seminars and three consultation meetings.
There are nine local action plans for gender equality currently in force across Montenegro.
