OSCE’s study on National Action Plans for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 presented in Podgorica
The OSCE Study on National Action Plans on the Implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, which analyses the strategies of 27 countries in the OSCE region in implementing this decision on women, peace and security, was presented on 6 October 2015 in Podgorica, Montenegro.
Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro Janina Hrebičkova underlined the importance of gender equality for the OSCE as an organization truly devoted to the equal participation of men and women in all spheres. Hrebičkova said: “Full implementation of this resolution requires the participation of civil society and close co-operation between this sector and state institutions. Co-operation of both state and non-state actors is crucial for strengthening the overall security sector in Montenegro.”
Montenegrin Defence Minister Milica Pejanović Đurišić said that the government would begin the drafting of a National Action Plan for the Implementation of UNSCR 1325. “There is no doubt that the active participation of women in all spheres of life and work is the best indicator for mature development and democracy,” Pejanović Đurišić said.
The OSCE’s Senior Gender Advisor Miroslava Beham emphasized the need to include more men in the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 and in making gender equality a reality in general. “Acknowledging the fact that the participation of men is significant in the implementation of the gender principles in all spheres, the security sector included, the OSCE launched a network to promote the engagement of men – the MenEngage Network,” Beham said.
Recommendations and conclusions from the event will be made available to the public.
