Good practices in free access to information in focus at OSCE-supported study visit to Slovenia

The OSCE Mission to Montenegro supported a working visit to Slovenia of staff from Montenegro’s Agency for the Protection of Personal Data and Free Access to Information, where they met their counterparts and shared experiences. The visit concluded on 30 May 2014.

Staff from the Montenegrin Agency met representatives of the Slovenian Information Commissioner, Ministry of Interior, journalists and NGO representatives. They discussed the competencies and the work of bodies responsible for access to public information, human and financial resources, communication with the public, and the importance of a proactive approach in publishing information.

The staff from Montenegro was also introduced to the practical implementation of the appeal procedure based on access to public information legislation in Slovenia, and the most common reasons for appeals.  

The Mission organized the visit with the aim of supporting the implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information, which was adopted in 2013. The project is funded by Switzerland, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.
