OSCE trains Montenegrin media trade union on advocacy, fundraising, management
Organizational development, advocacy and fundraising skills were focus of a training seminar for leaders of the recently established Media Trade Union of Montenegro that concluded in Budva on 1 December, 2013.
The three-day seminar was organized by OSCE Mission to Montenegro. It aimed at equipping the activists of the media trade union with the skills needed to better defend the rights of journalists, and safeguard media freedom in Montenegro.
Prominent experts from the region, including Jasmina Popovic, Vice-President of the International Federation of Journalists and former President of the Media Trade Union of Croatia, as well as Svetozar Rakovic, Secretary General of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia, took part in the event.
Following the establishment of the Media Trade Union in April, 2013, its membership grew to 340 representatives of Montenegrin media.
The Spokesperson of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Alyn Roberts said: “We see the Media Trade Union as an important grassroots organization. By supporting capacity-building initiatives like this, and by facilitating the Union’s contacts with similar unions and associations in the region, we hope to increase its potential to protect the rights of journalists and media freedom in the country.”
