OSCE supports roundtable discussion on environmental quality control of fuel sold in Montenegro

The quality control of motor oil and fuel depends on the full implementation of the Montenegro’s National Strategy for Air Quality Management and its Law on Energy. This was the conclusion of a roundtable discussion hosted by the School of Ecological Activism in Podgorica on 6 June 2013.
The School of Ecological Activism is a joint project of the OSCE Mission and the local environmental non-governmental organization, ‘Environmental Movement Ozone’, which aims to raise environmental awareness and enhance the dialogue between civil society and government on environmental issues. Representatives of parliamentary political parties, media and students take part in this project.
Participants at the roundtable discussion included the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism; the Environmental Protection Agency; Inspection Directorate; Institute for Standardization; Technical Committee for Oil and Oil Products; and a laboratory responsible for testing the quality of oil and fuel in the country. During their discussions, they found that the country needed stronger inspection capacities to include all European quality standards, a database on fuel stations, and measures that improve the quality of boat fuel and introduce biodiesel to the country’s market.
