OSCE Mission to Moldova hosts human rights discussion in Transdniestria with UN’s Hammarberg
On 18 September 2012 the OSCE Mission to Moldova hosted a roundtable discussion in Tiraspol with civil society and local authorities representatives on human rights issues. The event was held in co-operation with Resonance, a Bender-based non-governmental organization.
Some 30 participants from several towns of the left bank of Dniester/Nistru discussed local and international mechanisms for addressing human rights, in particular the alternative reporting process of the UN treaty body system, and experiences of collaboration between civil society on both banks.
Deputy Head of Mission Jan Plešinger led a discussion with civil society experts on behalf of the OSCE. Thomas Hammarberg, the UN Senior Expert on Human Rights in Transdniestria, chaired a general discussion during which participants exchanged views on human rights issues.
