Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova visits northern district affected by recent storms
The Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Jennifer Brush, paid her first visit to the northern district of Camenca, one of the poorest regions on the left bank of the Dniestr/Nistru, on 23 July 2012. The region was severely affected by recent storms with high winds and also by a lack of rain in recent months.
“We might not be able to directly provide assistance to the affected area, but the OSCE can help to inform the international community about their needs,” said Brush.
Brush met with the Tiraspol-appointed head of the Camenca district. During the meeting, they discussed several issues, including the involvement of the region in European projects, the economic situation, the perspective of its population and the amount of damage inflicted by the storms and the drought.
She also visited a church under reconstruction in the village of Valea Adinca and viewed joint peacekeeping forces at Checkpoint 9 at Vadul Lui Voda, where a Moldovan civilian was fatally wounded at the beginning of the year.
