Head of OSCE Mission concerned by fatal shooting in Transdniestria security zone
CHISINAU, 5 January 2012 – The Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Philip Remler, today expressed his concern at the fatal shooting in the Security Zone of the Transdniestrian conflict on 1 January.
“I am concerned that force was used in the Security Zone,” said Remler. “I welcome the timely decision of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) to mandate the Joint Military Command Commission to investigate the incident.”
Remler called for a thorough investigation of the incident including the actions of the peacekeepers and how they comport with the mandate, training, rules of engagement and instructions of the peacekeeping forces.
On the morning of 1 January 2012 an 18-year-old man was killed by a member of the peacekeeping force in the Security Zone of the Transdniestrian conflict while transiting a PKF checkpoint near Vadul lui Vodă, Moldova.
“I extend my condolences to the family of the victim,” said Remler.
