Fifth train leaves Kolbasna bound for Russia with ammunition

CHISINAU, 31 October 2002 - According to information provided to the OSCE Mission to Moldova by the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRF) in Moldova, a train loaded with Russian ammunition left the Kolbasna military base in Moldova in the early hours of 31 October 2002 bound for Russia.
The OSCE Mission observed initial phases of the loading of twenty rail cars with artillery ammunition on Monday 28 October 2002. Loading continued under the aegis of Russian military personnel until Wednesday 30 October, when the OSCE Mission returned to confirm its completion and to verify the seals placed on the rail cars.
The Mission is encouraged by the removal of the ammunition as it represents a continuation of Russian Federation efforts to fulfill its Istanbul commitment of full withdrawal by the end of the year.
