OSCE Mission to Moldova helps to build independent and professional media through workshop for journalism students
From 27 to 29 November 2015, some 23 students and alumni from the Chisinau School of Advanced Journalism (CSAJ) acquired key skills in investigative and data journalism at a three-day intensive workshop, organized in Vadul-lui-Vodă by the OSCE Mission to Moldova and the local NGO Independent Journalism Centre.
During the workshop, participants benefited from the expertise of local and international trainers, including Daniel Bojin, journalist of RISE Project Romania. In particular, the workshop provided students with the practical know-how to research and to use various types of data from a range of different sources.
“Knowing how to find and apply data correctly is an essential competence for any student of journalism,” said Rachel Bending, Spokesperson of the OSCE Mission to Moldova. “Equipping the next generation of journalists with these important skills will help to ensure the development of an independent and professional media in Moldova.”
The workshop forms part of a project to strengthen the professionalism of media in Moldova by supporting CSAJ courses that train students in different disciplines relevant to their future work as journalists. The overall aim of the project is to contribute to establishing an independent and professional media in Moldova.
The Chisinau School of Advanced Journalism is run by the Independent Journalism Centre and aims to develop independent professional media in the country and enhance relations between journalists from different regions.
