OSCE-supported Human Rights Club for jurists from both banks of the Dniestr/Nistru River held in Chisinau

CHISINAU, 14 December 2013 – On Friday, 13 December, jurists from both banks of the Dniester/Nistru river gathered at the OSCE Mission in Chisinau for the final meeting of this year of the Human Rights Club.
The forum was established by the Mission this year, in co-operation with the Norwegian Mission for Rule of Law Advisers to Moldova (NORLAM); it aims at exchange of experiences among local legal professionals from both banks of the river on practical legal matters. The Club has met already six times in Chisinau and Tiraspol.
The topic of today’s discussion was the right to privacy and personal data and the existing legal norms that regulate these matters on both banks, as well as ways for legal professionals on both banks to work together to strengthen this right and raise public awareness at the same time. Previous discussions focused on legal aid, children’s rights, the judicial structure and process, and changes and new procedures adopted by the European Court of Human Rights.
“The avid interest demonstrated by professionals from both banks to talk and learn from each other, is a very encouraging sign, and we are determined to continue facilitating such exchanges,” said Head of OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Jennifer Brush.
At the conclusion of today’s meeting, jurists who have attended four meetings will receive certificates of completion recognized by the Moldovan Bar Association.
