OSCE organizes seminar on civil society development in Transdniestria
The OSCE Mission to Moldova, together with the Tiraspol-based non-governmental organization, Independent Institute for Law and Civil Society, organized on 18 June 2013 a seminar for civil society in Transdniestria to discuss challenges and best practices in civil society development from both the local and regional context.
The seminar is part of the project ”Supporting Human Rights Awareness and Civil Society Development in Transdniestria,” which includes a series of activities for civil society in 2013, including forums with donors and meetings between lawyers from both banks of the river Dniestr.
The one-day seminar examined practices in the sphere of civil society regulation, financing, relationship with authorities, transparency and co-operation to help the participants formulate recommendations for the development of civil society. The event took place in Tiraspol and was attended by some 30 civil society members. Elena Abrosimova, Professor at the Commercial Law Department of the Moscow State University, joined as a guest speaker. She is also a member of the “Expert Group on Legislation of the NGO Council on Development of Civil Society and Human Rights Institutions” under the Russian Federation’s President. Other participants included Serghei Ostaf, executive director of the Chisinau-based NGO, CREDO, and Vitaliy Rotar, executive director of the Independent Institute for Law and Civil Society Development.
