OSCE Mission to Serbia supports organization of Third Global Forum of International Associations of Prosecutors
BELGRADE, 26 May 2017 – Identifying ways in which prosecutors’ associations can contribute to professional accountability and advancement of ethical standards in their work is the focus of the Third Global Forum of International Associations of Prosecutors, which opened today in Belgrade.
The conference gathers some 100 representatives of prosecutors’ associations from Austria, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Serbia. It is organized by the Prosecutors’ Association of Serbia, in partnership with the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the World Bank.
“Effective co-operation between Serbian associations of judges and prosecutors, international partners and other interested groups is essential for judicial independence,” said the Head of the OSCE Mission, Ambassador Andrea Orizio. “The Mission is dedicated to doing its part to fulfil the commitment of OSCE participating States to promoting and facilitating this dialogue.”
The two-day conference also serves as an opportunity to enhance the on-going process of law and justice reform in Serbia through a comprehensive exchange of information and sharing of good practices.
The OSCE Mission has been working since 2001 with professional associations of judges and prosecutors in Serbia to promote the independence and accountability of the judiciary.
