Political processes must adhere to democratic values, says OSCE Head of Mission to Montenegro on World Press Freedom Day
PODGORICA, 3 May 2018 – “Political processes must adhere to democratic values, which are the foundation of media and institutional independence,” said OSCE Head of Mission to Montenegro Maryse Daviet on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
‘Keeping Power in Check: Media, Justice and The Rule of Law’ is today’s global topic. It emphasizes worldwide challenges of media and the transparency of the political process, the independence and media literacy of the judicial system, and the accountability of state institutions towards the public.
“Exploring the challenges of press freedom must be a priority in every democracy,” said Daviet. “The Mission firmly supports processes which contribute to freedom of media, and will continue to do so through numerous activities tailor toward the needs and challenges of the profession.”
