OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Faculty of Law strengthen co-operation in promoting freedom of expression and media
On 24 February 2022, Kathleen Kavalec, Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Sarajevo, Zinka Grebo signed a Memorandum of Understanding on mutual co-operation in promoting the freedom of expression and media in the country.
The Memorandum is the result of the first Media Law School on freedom of expression and freedom of assembly on social networks organized by the Faculty of Law and the OSCE Mission to BiH in September 2021.
Emphasizing the valuable and consistent co-operation with the Faculty of Law, Kavalec said: “Under the Memorandum of Understanding, the Mission will support the development of a specialized master programme in media law. We see this as a valuable opportunity for young people from across the country and region to meet, learn and use various media law related concepts and knowledge in practice.”
“Studying media law is especially important both for an individual and for the whole society. Thus the development of media law as a branch of the law and as the scientific discipline is the ultimate and continued task of the legal community,” said Dean Grebo. “The social responsibility of the Faculty of Law of the University of Sarajevo, in this context, is in curricular and extracurricular subjects from the media law which we offer to our students.”
The OSCE Mission to BiH and the Faculty of Law of the University of Sarajevo reiterated their commitment to address the challenges related to media freedom and freedom of expression in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
