Belarusian officials learn about migration policy during OSCE-supported visit to Sweden
STOCKHOLM, 16 December 2010 - Belarusian officials are returning to Minsk today following an OSCE-supported visit to Sweden during which they learned about Swedish labour migration legislation and its practical implementation.
Officials from the Interior Ministry, the Parliament's Secretariat and the National Centre for Legal Research and Legislation, the body in Belarus that develops concepts and drafts legislation, learned about Sweden's system for migration and asylum policies, work permits and co-operation with former Soviet countries to manage labour migration during the two-day visit, supported by the OSCE Office in Minsk.
"Belarusian authorities have been studying various labour migration systems in order to strengthen their own labour migration legislation," said the head of the OSCE Office in Minsk, Ambassador Benedikt Haller. "The OSCE Mission supported this trip as part of its work to assist the Belarusian government in strengthening the rule of law."
