OSCE Office in Minsk promotes agro-ecotourism in Belarus
MINSK, 7 December 2010 - An agro-ecotourism centre set up with the support of the OSCE Office in Minsk was opened in Minsk today.
During the ceremony, organized jointly with a non-governmental organization Country Escape, foreign and national experts from ministries and associations discussed promotion of international standards and best practices in this area. The consultancy Centre is managed by a network of NGOs and promotes international standards in rural tourism and best practices for eco-labeling.
"Sustainable economic development is an integral element of the OSCE's comprehensive approach to security," said Ambassador Benedikt Haller, the Head of the OSCE Office in Minsk.
"Agro-ecotourism offering unique potential of Belarus' regions while protecting the environment can make an important contribution to local economic development. It is an area where dedicated local associations together with local entrepreneurship can make a difference. The national authorities can provide the nescessary support by developing vital infrastructure and ensuring careful management of natural resources. This agro-ecotourism centre will help and bring international expertise and best practices to the region."
