OSCE supports Kosovo Assembly Women’s Caucus in raising funds for women’s health issues

PRISHTINË/PRIŠTINA, 26 November 2012 - The OSCE Mission and the Assembly of Kosovo Women’s Caucus launched today a media campaign to raise awareness about the importance of timely testing and detection of breast cancer and to raise funds for the purchase of a mobile mammograph.
“The Assembly of Kosovo Women’s Caucus has started a crucial initiative for its constituencies across Kosovo,” said the Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Jean-Claude Schlumberger.
“The OSCE supports the work of the Women’s Caucus in strengthening the role of women in the society and supporting the protection of their interests. Therefore the OSCE is pleased to support this important campaign for women’s health.”
Stationary breast cancer testing instruments are currently available only in six larger towns. A mobile mammograph would offer women across Kosovo easier access to a crucial medical test. Once purchased, the equipment will be taken to rural areas to offer free testing to women of all communities.
The campaign dubbed ‘Don’t be late - Help fight breast cancer’ will last for two weeks and will end with a fundraising event in Prishtinë/Priština.
