OSCE Mission in Kosovo supports development of municipal regulations on gender equality
A workshop organized by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo on the development of municipal regulation on gender equality for nine municipalities in the Gjilan/Gnjilane region concluded on 1 October 2012.
The aim of the workshop for municipal gender officers and municipal women caucuses was to help representatives share their expertise in developing normative acts and producing draft regulation.
“The OSCE Mission in Kosovo has been supporting women’s involvement in municipal decision making for many years now. We have helped strengthen the position of the municipal gender officers and we have helped establish municipal women caucuses. This activity will help further strengthen gender equality in municipalities,” said Ulrich Biffar, Director of the OSCE Mission’s Gjilan/Gnjilane Regional Centre.
The resulting draft regulations on gender equality will now be put through municipal review procedures and will be submitted for approval by the respective municipal assemblies in January 2013.
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is mandated with human and community rights protection and promotion, democratization and public safety sector development. It supports public participation in municipal and central-level decision-making processes.
