Twenty candidates removed from Kosovo electoral lists
PRISTINA 23 October 2002
PRISTINA, 23 October 2002 - Twenty candidates have been removed from the electoral lists of 26 October municipal elections because their political entities violated the electoral Code of Conduct.
The Election Complaints and Appeals sub-Commission (ECAC) made this decision after five political entities failed to file disclosure reports in thirteen municipalities, and one entity that did not pay a previous fine.
The affected entites are the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Citizens Initiative of Kosovo (IQK), the Albanian National Democratic Party (PNDSH), and Opstanak.
In a separate case, the ECAC also removed two candidates from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) for failure to pay a fine imposed by the ECAC, when the party submitted invalid signatures of support in its applications to run in the Obiliq/Obilic and Strpce/Shterpce Assembly elections. The ECAC then levied an additional fine and notified the party that if this were not paid, additional action would be taken, including the removal of candidates.
The ECAC selected the candidate names from these entities for removal through a random selection process when the entities failed to file the reports or pay fines imposed. While these candidates are no longer eligible for election to municipal assemblies, their entities are still competing in the election and remain on the ballot.
The names of candidates who are removed from the lists and the municipalities they had been running are shown in the table attached.
