OSCE Mission in Kosovo: Disconnecting of power was unfounded and illegal
PRISTINA 17 October 2002
PRISTINA, 17 October 2002 - The OSCE Mission in Kosovo demanded today that the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) re-start the supply of power to the OSCE Headquarters in Pristina.
"The disconnection of electricity that occurred yesterday was unfounded and illegal," said Poul Smidt, Spokesperson of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo. "The OSCE was not informed of this action in advance."
The demand for restarting the supply was handed over to KEK in a letter including a legal opinion.
"We have paid all the bills presented to us," said the Spokesperson.
"We ask those involved, including KEK, to produce the bills on which they make claims. At the same time we ask for a breakdown of the 74,467.60 euros they talk about. We are convinced that such a breakdown will show that there are no unpaid bills concerning the supply to the OSCE Mission Headquarters in Kosovo."
At the same time, the Spokesperson confirmed that the OSCE Mission in Kosovo fully supports the efforts to collect outstanding debts to KEK. "We participated in drafting the Regulation on this issue and we urge that all debts be legally collected from those who owe money."
