PRISTINA, 17 June 2002 - The four-week period for political entities to certify for the forthcoming Kosovo Municipal Elections is almost halfway complete. Thus far the Political Party Service division of the OSCE Department of Election Operations has delivered 46 certification applications to political entities.
The 46 recipients include 30 political parties, 9 citizens initiatives, 6 independent candidates and one coalition. Of those, 26 are from Albanian political entities, 9 from Serbian, 5 from Roma, Egyptian and Ashkali entities, 4 from Bosniac/Gorani, and two from Turkish entities.
All political entities wishing to run for the forthcoming elections have to submit their certification application before the end of this month.
According to Electoral Rule 4/2002, issued by Kosovo's Central Election Commission, every political entity who wishes to participate in the elections and be included on the ballot, must be certified. To be certified it must submit a completed application form, a list of municipalities for which it wishes to compete, at least 100 signatures of support per municipality, a non-refundable fee of 100 Euro per municipality, and a 150 word political statement.
