Kosovo Judicial Institute to hold information meeting on corruption issues

PRISTINA, 4 February 2002 - The Kosovo Judicial Institute is holding a one-day information session on issues related to corruption. The meeting, to which Kosovo criminal law judges and prosecutors have been invited, will focus on how the judiciary can tackle cases of corruption.
This information session follows a similar event two months ago. The aim of this series of meetings is to familiarize the participants with the legal provisions of the Council of Europe Conventions that can be used to punish and track down cases of corruption.
Experts from the Council of Europe will present the participants with the various legal anti-corruption instruments of the Council of Europe. They will also discuss specific anti-corruption related issues, such as trial procedures, problems of evidence, black funds and money laundry, special investigation techniques, the role of deterrent and dissuasive sanctions and problems encountered with respect to execution of court decisions and freezing crime assets.
In addition, the participants will discuss the applicable law in Kosovo regarding these topics. The presentation will include case studies and group discussions.
The event is organized by the Kosovo Judicial Institute, which has been established by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, and the Council or Europe. All media are invited to attend the event, which will take place on 5 Feburary at 9.30 to 16.30 in the premises of the Kosovo Judicial Institute, Ramiz Sadiku Street, Pristina.
