Second round of licensing for local stations in Kosovo
PRISTINA 20 February 2001
PRISTINA, 20 February 2001 - The following announcement was released today by the Kosovo Temporary Media Commissioner:
"The Office of Temporary Media Commissioner (TMC) is conducting the second, and for the moment the last, round of licensing for local and low power stations. Concurrently, we are receiving for the first time a number of applications for minority stations and we will continue to receive them until 28 February 2001.
"Once again, we wish to make it clear that the tender for ten spare frequencies announced in Public Announcement No. 2000/7 constituted the last opportunity for applicants to submit applications for these frequencies. Our office is not accepting any new applications as all frequncies are currently allocated. Should an existing frequency become available, the Office of the TMC shall notify interested parties through public announcement.
"As of 1 April 2001, we will review that broadcasters have fulfilled the terms and conditions of their corresponding licenses. In the case broadcasters have not fulfilled them, we shall be obliged to revoke the licenses and put those frequencies to tender for another licensing process."
For further information, contact OSCE Spokesperson Claire Trevena, tel: (+381-38) 500-162 ext. 260 / mobile: +377 (044) 500-150 / e-mail: press@omik.org, //www.osce.org/kosovo/
