Young Kosovo journalists attend training session in Austria

PRISTINA, 2 June 2000 - An intensive training course is under way for 10 young Kosovo journalists. The OSCE, Austrian Broadcasting Corp (ORF) and the Austrian Government have arranged the course which is being held in Vienna.
The journalists, from Radio Kontakt, Radio 21, Radio Besa and Radio Prizren, will be learning about basic radio journalism. The topics they will cover include journalistic responsibility, the need for accuracy and for balance.
They will also receive some training in how to cover elections; this will include some work on how to report on an election meeting, how to present a political party and its platform and how to interview candidates.
The 10-day course, facilitated by the OSCE and carried out by the Austrian Broadcasting Corp, will include tours of radio stations as well as Radio Austria International. The journalists will also meet with OSCE officials.
The OSCE has arranged a number of training courses for Kosovo journalists. The media department also has a core of professional trainers. It is committed to developing the quality of journalism in Kosovo so people can rely on their media as the bearers of unbiased, impartial and accurate information, essential in any democracy. Before the election up to 350 Kosovo journalists will have undergone some form of training thanks to the OSCE.
