Assembly debate on the economic situation important for Kosovo, says OSCE Head of Mission

PRISTINA, 6 July 2005 - The Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Werner Wnendt, welcomed today's debate in the Assembly on the economic situation in Kosovo.

"We are encouraged by the positive debate in the Assembly on an issue of great concern for the future of Kosovo," he said. "Recently, the Assembly tackled local governance reform and it is good to see that these relevant issues are being addressed constructively.

"I hope that the Assembly will continue to play a leading role in driving such debates forward. hThis helps to demonstrate how the Assembly is an institution where elected officials are working for the interests of the people of Kosovo."

He added that the Assembly should meet more regularly in order to increase its engagement and take appropriate actions to resolve matters which affect society.
