After the very successful first ever OSCE South East Europe media conference held last year in Sarajevo, this annual event is to continue in Belgrade in September 2012. The event is designed to offer journalists, academics, NGOs and the international community from South East Europe a platform to discuss media freedom challenges and ways forward. It will contribute to raising awareness among decision-makers in the hope of identifying solutions to media freedom challenges.
This year, the conference will focus on major factors that impact press freedom:
- State Policies and Law:
- Restrictive Laws and Practices;
- State Ownership and State Aid;
- Business and Corporate Interests:
- Transparency of Media Ownership and Media Pluralism;
- Fear of Violence and Self-Censorship:
- Safety of Journalists and State Response to Threats and Violence;
- What is next in the Balkans?
