OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media welcomes developments in investigation of murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in Malta
VIENNA, 6 December 2017 – The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir today welcomed that, following a series of arrests earlier this week, three people have now been charged with murder in the case of the car explosion that killed the investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in Malta on 16 October 2017.
"I welcome this important step in the investigation of the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. I will continue to closely monitor all developments relating to this murder. I hope that all those involved in this horrific crime, perpetrators and masterminds, will be identified, arrested and brought to justice,” the Representative said.
The Representative recalled that Daphne Caruana Galizia was known as a journalist dedicated to uncovering sensitive issues in Maltese society, including corruption. For many years, she had been subject to severe harassment and threats for her critical work.
