OSCE media freedom representative condemns bomb attack against Montenegrin newspaper, calls for swift investigation
VIENNA, 27 December 2013 – OSCE media freedom representative Dunja Mijatović today condemned yesterday’s bomb attack against the offices of Vijesti newspaper in Podgorica, Montenegro, resulting in material damages.
“I strongly condemn this attack and call on authorities to carry out a swift and transparent investigation that will lead to the identification and prosecution of the perpetrators,” Mijatović said.
Vijesti has been the target of multiple attacks in recent months. In October and November the newspaper’s offices were vandalized and in August a bomb detonated close to Vijesti journalist Tufik Softić’s house. In addition, arson attacks on Vijesti vehicles in 2011 still remain unsolved.
“The fact that no one has been prosecuted for any of these attacks sends a message of impunity. Only a swift prosecution of all those responsible for these criminal acts can help to ensure that similar attacks not will be repeated,” Mijatović said.
Mijatović welcomed the prompt reaction by the Minister of Interior who immediately visited Vijesti offices and condemned the attack.
