OSCE Chairman-in-Office appoints special representative for elections in Armenia

OSLO, 28 April 1999 - The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Foreign Minister of Norway Knut Vollebaek, has designated Ms. Tone Tingsgaard as his Special Representative to lead the OSCE Short-Term Observation Mission to the Parliamentary Elections in Armenia on 30 May 1999.
Ms. Tingsgaard is Head of the Swedish Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
The Special Representative will lead the Short-Term Election Observation Mission in close cooperation with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, which established an Election Observation Mission in Armenia on 19 April. The observers generally come from various OSCE participating States, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and other parliamentary bodies.
The Special Representative will, in conjunction with other appropriate officials, deliver a preliminary statement shortly after the elections based on the findings of both the long-term and short-term observers. It will be followed by a more comprehensive final report containing concrete recommendations a few weeks later.
Election Observation Missions are organized by the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and closely cooperate with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly as well as other observation bodies.
