OSCE delegation to visit North Caucasus, 10-12 November

OSLO, 10 November 1999 - During the summit meeting on the Middle East in Oslo on 1-2 November, the Russian Federation consented to a visit by the Norwegian OSCE Chairmanship to the North Caucasus on the basis of the OSCE humanitarian mandate in Chechnya.
The visit will take place from 10 to 12 November.
The OSCE Chairmanship will send a delegation of seven people, headed by Ambassador Kim Traavik. Ambassador Odd Gunnar Skagestad, acting head of the OSCE Assistance Group to Chechnya, will also be part of the delegation.
The primary purpose of the visit is to enable the Norwegian Chairmanship to get an idea of the humanitarian situation in the North Caucasus. The itinerary will include Ingushetia, and probably northern Chechnya. After having visited North Caucasus, the delegation will also have meetings with Russian authorities and United Nations representatives in Moscow.
