Mediators and observers in the Transdniestran conflict meet in Madrid
MADRID, 25 January 2007 - The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, today issued the following statement:
"At the initiative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation, the Mediators and Observers responsible for co-operating in the settlement of the Transdniestrian Conflict in Moldova have met today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation.
'I hope that this meeting brings about results in the near future,' said the Minister.
On behalf and in representation of the Spanish Foreign Minister, the meeting was headed by the Director General of Foreign Policy for Europe and North America, Jose Maria Pons. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Andriy Veselovsky, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary, David Kramer, the Ambassador at Large of the Russian Federation, Valery Nesterushkin, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Louis O'Neill and the EU Special Representative, Ambassador Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged.
The participants in the meeting discussed at length the situation, its evolution and future prospects, and called on both parties to continue talks with the presence of the above-mentioned Mediators and Observers."
