OSCE promotes interactive teaching among police trainers in Kyrgyzstan
BISHKEK, 3 October 2011 – An OSCE-supported five-day training course for Kyrgyzstan’s police trainers on dealing with victims of crimes started today in Bishkek.
Representatives of the Secondary special police school and the Police Academy will work on techniques for interviewing victims, detecting cases of trafficking and exploitation of people, and working with victims of hate crimes. Subsequently, the instructors will be able to use the information and training materials in organizing own training courses in the field.
“The OSCE Centre in Bishkek places great importance to promoting practical training in accordance with international educational standards at police educational institutions,” said Lilian Darii, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek.
“The training workshops help us to understand the importance of interactive methodology and provided an opportunity to develop practical component and quality of training classes,” said Deputy Chief of the Secondary special police school, Colonel Kubanychbek Satybaldiev.
Under the OSCE Police Reform Programme for Kyrgyzstan, the OSCE Centre in Bishkek also recently organized two train-the-trainer workshops on interactive teaching methodologies, including role-plays, and improving pedagogical skills. During the courses, three crime-scene simulation rooms installed by the OSCE Centre at the Secondary special police school were used.
