OSCE Centre supports training course for Kyrgyz police investigators
BALYKCHY, Kyrgyzstan, 11 September 2009 - About 126 police investigators will enhance their knowledge of investigation, crime detection and forensics, including DNA research, ballistics and evidence gathering, at a training course supported by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek that started in Issyk-Kul province today.
The four-day workshop will be taught by experts from the Interior Ministry and the Chief of the Kyrgyz Police Academy's Training Forensic Centre.
"The OSCE Centre in Bishkek considers police education a key part of ensuring effective law enforcement, and providing training for investigators in remote areas is particularly important," said Lilian Darii, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek.
"The training will increase the professional skills of investigators. Particular attention will be paid to detection of serious crimes, including crimes against children," said Kench Abdiev, a police colonel and head of the training department of the Interior Ministry's Main Investigatory Directorate.
The trainees will also receive specialist publications provided with support of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek. Similar training courses will be held in the Naryn, Talas, Osh, Jalal-Abad and Batken provinces in September and October.
