OSCE Centre trains Kyrgyz police lecturers on human rights
BISHKEK, 13 October 2008 - Some 30 Kyrgyz Police Academy lecturers took part in a training course on the methodology of teaching about human rights that ended in Bishkek today.
The nine-day course, organized by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, was delivered by Police Lieutenant Colonel Zsolt Molnar, a senior law adviser and police education expert from the Hungarian Justice Ministry.
"New training strategies have been introduced to provide a systematic response to the challenges of police education. This course highlights the human rights aspects for police officers in their work with the community," said Molnar.
Lilian Darii, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre, added: "We are glad to see that police officials are collaborating closely on education matters not only with international organizations but also with NGOs."
The event was organized as part of the OSCE Centre's activities to promote the human rights education of Kyrgyz police officers. It was held jointly with the Centre on Human Rights and Civilian oversight.
On 7 October, the OSCE Centre held a roundtable discussion on "Human rights as a way to increase the professionalism of police officers", which brought together representatives of civil society and international partners. The discussion helped develop recommendations on ways to improve the human rights education of police officers.
