Kyrgyzstan, OSCE Centre promote participation of young people in country's development
BISHKEK, 27 May 2008 - Engaging young people in Kyrgyzstan's development processes and capacity-building in strategic development management methods are the aim of a memorandum of understanding and co-operation signed by the OSCE Centre and the Presidential Administration's Social and Economic Department in Bishkek today.
Under the memorandum, the OSCE will assist in the development of effective strategy elaboration with young people's involvement on the national and regional level.
"Young people are the future of the country. Involving them in the process of shaping and realizing the country's development policies in general and its youth policy in particular is of utmost importance for their integration into the social, economic and cultural life," said Lilian Darii, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre.
He added that a lack of youth-oriented policies could be a source of tension, especially in the regions.
"In order to obtain qualified managers and civil servants in the future we need to start working with young people. Today we have exigencies in involving young people in country development processes," said Azamat Dikambaev, the Head of the Presidential Administration's Social and Economic Department.
