OSCE Centre supports training for social workers of the Kyrgyz Penitentiary System

Organized by
16 social workers from of the Kyrgyz Penitentiary System are participating in a two-week capacity-building training course, organized by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek and the Kyrgyz State Service for Execution of Punishment (SSEP) from 19 September to 1 October 2016.
The two-week course is led by trainers from national universities and the SSEP on the application of modern social work techniques, and covers best practices for social work with sentenced prisoners in places of detention and social rehabilitation. Training is being conducted in the SSEP Training centre, established by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek’s support in 2010, and located on the territory of Department of Convoy and Security of the Kyrgyz SSEP in Bishkek.
The training is part of an OSCE project on the implementation of the national strategy on the Development of the Penitentiary System “Umut-2”, that addresses both human rights and safety in penitentiary establishments by supporting the improvement of capacity-building among prison staff and the modernization of the penitentiary system.
