OSCE Centre in Bishkek supports second regional session of Kyrgyz Parliament’s Women’s Forum
The Women’s Forum of the Kyrgyz Parliament, with the support of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, held its second regional parliamentary session at Avrora resort centre of Issyk-Kul oblast, on 11 March 2016 with the aim of establishing a working group on the new law on police development.
Some 50 representatives of Parliament, Government, Ministry of Interior, civil society and mass media discussed the implementation of the new police performance evaluation system in the Issyk-Kul region as well as women’s representation in the local police.
The regional sessions of the Women’s Forum of the Kyrgyz Parliament are intended to bring together all stakeholders involved in the reform of the police in Kyrgyzstan, including law enforcement agencies and civil society.
During the first session held in the city of Osh, southern Kyrgyzstan on 14 December 2015 the Women’s Forum of the Kyrgyz Parliament launched a parliamentary oversight mechanism for police reform. As a result, a number of decisions have been taken since then in the area of police reform, including the initiative to develop a new law on police.
The Women’s Forum of the Kyrgyz Parliament is represented by 23 members of parliament from six political factions.
The OSCE’s support for this event was organized as part of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek’s police reform project.
