OSCE improves capacity of Kyrgyz Ministry of Interior to combat organized crime
BISHKEK, 3 February 2015 – The OSCE Centre in Bishkek today handed over a Volkswagen T5 minibus, to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Interior’s Department for Combating Organized Crime, to enhance their work and crime scene investigations.
“Today’s handover is part of a multi-year, multi-pronged approach to assisting the Ministry in its efforts to more effectively and efficiently counter organized crime across Kyrgyzstan,” said John MacGregor, Deputy Head of Centre. “The Government of Kyrgyzstan has made combating organized crime a top priority, and the OSCE Centre in Bishkek is committed to offering the maximum assistance possible.”
The OSCE Centre in Bishkek also supports the Ministry with educational programmes aimed at increasing professional capacities as well as supporting the creation of a multi-disciplinary team for investigating organized crime cases.
The improvement of normative legal documents is also one of the Centre’s priorities as well as supporting the newly-established Witness Protection Department of the Interior Ministry and the creation of a Co-ordination Centre within the Department for Combating Organized Crime.
