OSCE Centre in Bishkek supports visit of international anti-corruption monitors
BISHKEK, 19 January 2015 - The OSCE Centre in Bishkek is supporting a visit to the country by the monitoring mission of the Anti-Corruption Network for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ACN) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), from 19 to 23 January 2015.
The monitoring visit is part of the Round Three of the OECD ACN Istanbul Anti-Corruption Action Plan, which is a sub-regional peer review programme launched in 2003 for nine countries including the Kyrgyz Republic. The programme reviews the legal and institutional frameworks for fighting corruption and make recommendations; monitors progress in implementing the recommendations. The results are discussed at regional meetings and published as country and progress reports.
The visit aims to assess the progress of the Kyrgyz Republic in complying with recommendations of the Istanbul Action Plan focusing on Anti-Corruption Policy and Institutions, Criminalization and the Prevention of Corruption. The monitoring team will hold meetings with representatives of the government, NGOs, the business sector, the international community and the media.
“Kyrgyzstan has made progress in combating corruption. It is essential that the Kyrgyz Government continues to implement the recommendations outlined in the Istanbul Anti-Corruption Action Plan,” said Yulia Minaeva, Senior Economic and Environmental Officer at the OSCE Centre in Bishkek. “The OSCE Centre in Bishkek will further assist the Government in its efforts to meet OSCE commitments to fight corruption for the benefit of the Kyrgyz people.”
ACN is an outreach programme of the OECD Working Group on Bribery. The Istanbul Action Plan is designed to promote the UN Convention against Corruption and other international standards and good practice.
