Kyrgyz National Strategy for Sustainable Development is focus of OSCE-supported discussion in Bishkek
The Heads of Talas and Issyk-Kul provinces, district administrations and Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy officials gathered in Bishkek on 17 December 2014 for a final discussion on sustainable development program for the regions.
The participants discussed the importance of 2017 National Strategy for Sustainable Development (Strategy) implementation and opportunities across the country to develop local economic development agendas, taking into account environmental and social factors.
The participants also discussed the main results and findings of the Strategy’s implementation so far and have presented the achievements of the Programme for sustainable development of Suusamyr, Talas and Issyk-Kul and Naryn province. The role of the Agency n attracting foreign direct investment (IPA) on promoting investments projects for sustainable development of the regions and local communities was also discussed.
“Kyrgyzstan has done a lot since the Rio+20 international Summit on Sustainable Development in 2012. The country focused on building capacity of regions, strategic planning for sustainable development with the emphasis on local communities, which is vital if to succeed”, said acting Head of the Economic and Environmental Office at the OSCE Centre in Bishkek Manav Sachdeva
A number of training courses on strategic planning for the transition to sustainable development at the local level has been conducted during the project implementation from September to December of 2014.
The event was organized as a part of the "Improving conditions for sustainable development in the Kyrgyzstan on the example of the Issyk-Kul and Talas provinces” project, jointly implemented by the Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy and ecological movement ‘BIOM’, and supported by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek.
