OSCE, World Customs Organization train Kyrgyz Customs officials on intellectual property rights
BISHKEK, 10 October 2014 –The OSCE Centre in Bishkek, in co-operation with the World Customs Organization, today completed a two-week training course for Kyrgyz Customs officials in the area of intellectual property rights, in Bishkek.
The World Customs Organization experts mentored seven Kyrgyz Customs officials on how to deliver training materials on intellectual property rights and how to develop teaching plans to be used in future academic training programmes.
“The Centre in Bishkek remains strongly committed to strengthening the work of the Kyrgyz Customs Training Centre and the Kyrgyz Customs Service,” said Yulia Minaeva, Senior Officer of Economic and Environmental Dimension at the OSCE Centre in Bishkek. “The visit by experts from the World Customs Organization has advanced the knowledge and skills of Kyrgyz Customs officers in how to provide an effective defence against the risks of intellectual property rights’ violations.”
Ziya Aghaev, World Customs Organization expert from Azerbaijan, said: “Taking into consideration the modern challenges facing customs services and their role in facilitating trade on a legal basis, the Kyrgyz customs administration, supported by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, has made a big step in building the capacity of customs officers in the area of protection of intellectual property rights.”
The intellectual property rights course was conducted as part of the OSCE project “Capacity-building of customs officers of the Kyrgyz Republic and Islamic Republic of Afghanistan”.. One of the project’s objectives is the co-ordination of activities of the State Customs Service’s (SCS) Training Centre, including those provided under other international programs and customs co-operation, in order to create a single sustainable training programme for the Training Centre.
