OSCE supports professional training for Kyrgyz prison officers
An OSCE-supported professional training course for Kyrgyz prison controllers concluded on 31 January 2014 in Bishkek.
During the two-week course, 16 newly-recruited officers of Kyrgyzstan’s State Penitentiary Service (GSIN) learned about penitentiary legislation and internal regulations of the prison system and attended special seminars on international human rights standards, anti-corruption, and prison security.
The classes took place at the GSIN Training Centre which was established with the OSCE’s support in 2010.
Penitentiary Reform Adviser of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, Miroslaw Nowak, said: “The main goal of the professional training course is to improve skills of newcomers, and expand their knowledge of internal regulations and procedures.”
The training course is part of an ongoing OSCE project aimed at strengthening the capacity of Kyrgyzstan’s prison system. In 2013, under the training component of the project, more than 900 prison officers from across the country attended 19 basic and specialised training courses, seminars and conferences.
