OSCE supports visit of senior Afghan police officers to Kyrgyzstan
A delegation of senior Afghan police officers is participating in an OSCE-supported peer-to-peer visit to Kyrgyzstan from 11 to 15 November 2013.
The officers will visit the headquarters of Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry, its forensic lab, community policing sub-stations, and Police Academy in Bishkek. They will also travel to southern Kyrgyzstan to attend several training sessions as part of the OSCE Community Security initiative in Osh, and to visit the local Crime Prevention Centre in Kara-Suu where they will observe the implementation of a local community policing project.
The visit aims to establish good relationships between Kyrgyz and Afghan authorities and encourage sharing of information on democratic policing.
Victor Sotchi, Head of the Police Reform Programme of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, said: “We are now witnessing the results of successful co-operation with the Kyrgyz police to the point where they become a partner of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek in training other nations’ officials.”
The visit took place with the support of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek and Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry. It follows a similar training trip in 2012.
