Armed forces conduct aerial observation flights in Bosnia and Herzegovina
SARAJEVO 31 May 2001
SARAJEVO, 31 May 2001(OSCE) - Two aerial observation flights were conducted over the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday, 30 May. The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the office of the OSCE Personal Representative on Article II, in co-operation with the country's armed forces and the Czech Republic, organized the two flights.
The Czech Republic provided a fixed-wing "Open Skies" aircraft for the event, which was conducted over the territory of the country's two entities, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska. Participants from both entities' armed forces took actively part in the planning and execution of the flights, which focused at taking aerial photographs of the country.
These flights have given the Parties another opportunity to work together on a common endeavour, under the auspices of the Agreement on Confidence and Security-Building Measures in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are considered as one of the aspects of Measure 11 of the Article II Agreement (Annex 1B) of the Dayton Peace Accords on military "Contacts and Co-operation". Their basic objective is to promote greater openness and transparency of military activities and to enhance security.
