Certification period for independent candidates in Bosnia and Herzegovina ended
SARAJEVO 21 July 2000
SARAJEVO, 21 July 2000 - As stipulated by the Provisional Election Commission (PEC), the Independent Candidate certification period ended yesterday, July 20, 2000 at 17:00 hours. A total of seven Independent Candidates and four Independent Candidates Lists have submitted applications for certification for the forthcoming General Elections in November this year.

The PEC will review all applications in the following weeks according to the requirements of its Rules and Regulations. All the Applications for Certification will be reviewed against the criteria stipulated in the PEC Rules and Regulations.
The OSCE established its present Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18 December 1995. In accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP), the OSCE Mission activities are to: promote Democratization and the building of a vibrant civil society, foster the development of professional journalism and monitor the rights of journalists, monitor and advance the Human Rights situation, supervise the conduct of Elections, and encourage Regional Stabilization through arms control and confidence and security-building measures. The OSCE Mission continues to work closely with other international organizations and local institutions to implement the Dayton Peace Accords.
